Mizu, Bangsar

with Japanese restaurant everywhere, is not difficult to find that one like
the row of Japanese restaurants in Subang had been the first choice if i ever want a decent meal that is near
but now i wouldn't mind to travel slightly further to Mizu or maybe a bit further down to Fukuharu (next post maybe if i'm hardworking)

never really thought of eating here until one day, there is nothing else we felt like eating when doing groceries at BV. and seriously no regrets
we had a very friendly manager serving us, slightly loud but friendly and she is fast, doesn't need to write down the order, she just seems to memorize everything in her mind

we love the sashimi here. very fresh and FAT!!! look at the toro and scallop..yummy..i don't even need the soya sauce and wasabi. and we have different types of fish on different visit although the basic salmon is there..i love the amebi the most!!!! wicked!!! fresh and 'creamy' if that is the write word to describe it..

white bait salad is good. its not in the menu, but since the manager introduce to us, why not have it right.
but the dobin is still not my fav. the dobin i love the most is still the one in fukuya (btw, its been pretty long since i had fukuya)

ok, the roll and tofu was nothing to shout for..the typical ones..but still enjoyable. and its a must to be on the table when I'm dining with a lady that need to have everything on the table.

love the grilled squid there too, with the salty tangy dipping. very addictive and i think it would be a very good beer food. its not necessary need to be fried right??

and people who knows me wouldn't be surprise if i say its a need to either order a cold soba or onigiri every time i had Jap food. Please don't ask me why, i don't have an explanation to that. i guess it become a bad habit dy...

hmm, when is the next visit?? ish ish

Barista Jam '12 @ 'F' by Buffalo Kitchens

after the CTI conference, Barista Jam '12 was held at 'F' by buffalo kitchens the next day.
this event was all about gathering the coffee enthusiasts to talk about coffee and of course coffee jamming.
this was the second coffee jamming held by them, hopefully there will be more coming up in future.
this place is pretty awesome if you want to spend a quiet afternoon with a great cuppa of coffee, or reading those book i love (who doesn't like 'The Fat Duck, Noma..etc etc), or hanging out with friends..going to try their brekkie soon enough

back to the story, I had the opportunity to try out the coffee brought over by Van-lin. Two different beans from different regions. Sorry i don't have the pictures but i still remember the taste and aroma of the coffee. One was lighter in taste, smoother, and i do agree it goes better with the milk, or in my words, a more lady kind of coffee..gentle. The next one was stronger, more pungent, and the aroma actually linger at the palate for a much longer period. if you asked which did I favor more, I would say, I prefer having both at different time, different mood.

they had a small, fun competition too. to see who can make the most rosetta in a cup..hmm i decided to stand there and watch since i don't even remember making a love..lol..guess my sifu will be pretty disappointed with me huh..

this cup was by Ryan..5 in a cup..pretty awesome huh..

Cheryl and Fai..it's great to talk to both of them. thanks for the sharing the other afternoon..

ahh...its Cheryl turn..how was it?? haha

this was not from Cheryl. it's Van-lin. 6 in a row..two thumbs up for this.

how long does all this people take to master all these skills and after gulping so much coffee, they still have such strong passion towards coffee..the sensitivity of smelling and tasting, that's one thing i envy..

the manager of 'F', Rachel, an awesome lady, energetic. and i remember what she said, ' i love the machine lots'. i mean you seldom listening people saying this as the common said ' i love coffee' or 'i love latte art'. listening to her story of her coffee journey just makes me feel like flying straight out of the country at that moment and be at the spot she once stood.

Tung-wei performing..someone who turns his hates of the 'black liquid' to love and all thanks to all the coffee enthusiast around him. and we shall thanks him for holding this FUN event at his place.

everyone seems to paying full attention when it was Sk turn

 Barista Jam 2012 rocks!!

let's look forward to another awesome one!!

WE LOVE OUR CUP OF COFFEE!!!IT'S A WRAP!!

Antipodean Cafe

its another day where i basically have nothing to do and decided to head down Bangsar for breakkie all by myself since everyone is at work and i'm sitting alone in home
erm, this cafe is also another place for coffee that have been highly raved but also highly 'commented'
even a friend of mine was commenting, its not worth a visit
but its unfair to judge if i din pay a visit myself right

nevermind the good or bad comment, this place is fully packed when i reach and until i left, its still fully packed.
once a table being cleaned, new customers start sitting down, maybe its not that bad huh
service was considered fast looking at the amount of customers in house
i didn't have a chance to walk to the end of the cafe to look at the cake display also as it was so crowded but i love the crowd that day.it not like those Chinese kopitiam crowd. if you could understand
i was just sitting at one corner where i can mostly see everyone.observing mood on. haha!!

for the menu, just tilt your head to the right, and you can see a whole long list of menu
and i meant it when i say long, its the whole stretch of wall
from coffee, teas, juices, breakfast item, salads, main course, porridge (the Western kind like Bircher),Thai food, dessert...u name it, they basically have it.kitchen is really really busy for MEP..and one good news BREAKFAST WHOLE DAY LONG!!! and they serve PORK BACON

Antipodean emphasize a lot on their coffee, mainly Arabica blends from Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi and Bali. Its produced by Merdeka coffee, a Indonesia-based franchise
but black wasn't my choice for the day, opted for a latte
love the lovey love on the foam but don't like the extreme hot latte that almost burnt my tongue
it was really hot that i need to stir stir stir to cool it down slightly and the aroma of coffee wasn't really there
hmm, maybe business was too good and the barista made an error.

then i had my French Toast with maple syrup and pork bacon
it looks a bit pathetic right, but its the presentation la
nothing very special, but you don't get much place selling toast + Bacon + maple in Klang Valley though
and this was yummy.awesome threesome combination even they look like they doesn't pair
i always prefer maple on toast or pancake compared to honey, should have order extra bacon huh..rustic!!!

a good breakfast or brunch, to start off the day and i might just drop by for another trial of coffee and since there are still so so so much more items on the menu

ooohhh..and i found a new gem in BV, at Ben's General Store..big big muffin..
i guess they are almost the same size as Starbucks, and i bought the chorizo muffin and a few other pastries
i had a bite of the muffin and it was delicious. savory muffin is good once in a while with the price of RM10 for one muffin
this place has varieties of fresh bread on their display, very tempting, even English muffin. Cant wait to get those muffin to do my Eggs Benedict, or Egg Florentine??

poached egg + Hollandaise sauce + Pork Bacon + Rockets + Toasted English Muffin

Marquise Patisserie, BSC

it was a day well spent with my beloved Vic,
and we decided to have tea break together
i had pass by this patisserie a few times and i felt today is the right day to try as lileng has a sweet mouth too

they do custom cakes order and they have wide array of display at their glass cabinet
custom made fondant cake has been a hit in the market besides macaron of course
but how many of the cakes tasted fabulous with all the figurines. i'm always amazed with the details work and structure of fondant cake but not much when it comes to taste. the one that i fond of will be from Delectable by Su..the cake was lovely and the fondant aren't that sweet..good fondant i guess.i wonder how Marquise fondant cake taste like
we decided to go for the hi-tea set as the picture on the banner look tempting

each of us has a pot of tea. but it takes them really long to serve us. i don't remember the brand of tea. but the tea was good after letting it sit for while. i opted for the raspberry and vanilla infusion while she opted for blackberries. the sourness from both tea just balanced up the food that we consume. however, the flavor of vanilla is barely detected as the flavor of raspberry had overpowered it.

this is the hi-tea set. remembering this holder from the Stella Maris hi-tea i had months back with my roomie
i felt a bit disappointed when the set arrive. it was different from the picture displayed
none of the cakes in the chiller display were there.aiks
the macarons were so sweet and tasted so artificial (thinking of Nathalie's now)
the madeline is not nice, not to say i taste a lot of madeline, but this is soggy and i don't see the bulge
the tart was nothing to be shout for. we did not finish the cookies either..
the things we gave our compliment on is

this tiny piece of chocolate cake that is shared by both of us.
if i could, i rather replace the madeline with the cake, the appearance certainly don't look tempting but it was soft, and not too sweet with the creaminess of the filling
Vic adores their egg sandwich too which is to me not too bad

maybe next time when i was there i should just stick to their pastry in the chiller as i heard a lot of raving about that. and they sell gourmet chocolates too..next time then.
overall, its a pretty disappointing hi-tea to me
but the companion was really a good one
it was a great day to meet her again

miss u Vic

Ben's General Food Store

another outlet from BIG..they are really mushrooming with Plan B, Ben's at KLCC, T Forty Two and now Ben's General Foodstore..highly salute Mr. Benjamin Chung for being able to expand in such a tremendous speed!!! Now, back to the food..

the caesar salad and the cof fish salad (don't remember the actual name)..we love one..and we dislike one..big chunks of bread, romaine lettuce, parmesan cheese crisp and caesar dressing..how can we not like it..so disorganized yet so homey..lettuce was fresh, bread was well toasted, bacons were crunchy..dressing was creamy and well seasoned..the only down part was too little dressing for us..and while we were munching on this, i peep at the rest of the tables, and quite many of them ordered caesar salad pizza..basically pizza dough topped with caesar salad..sounds very normal yet you hardly get it else where :)

the cod fish salad didn't fair so well..it tasted fishy and dressing just doesn't blend in with the rest of the ingredient..i only like the pineapple though..

this shows how much he likes his dessert that night..haha..

next was the pepperoni pizza..their pizza here could easily feed 2 and 3 of us were struggling to finish the pizza coz there were another one coming up..thin crusted, chewier and blistered all over..that's the way i like it..uh huh uh huh..loaded with pepperoni and melted cheese all over..YUMMY!!!! this only proves Malaysian pizzeria is getting bette and i like it!!

next was the breakfast pizza..a very heavy hearty breakfast i would say..meat balls, eggs, bacon, ketchup all over the pizza dough..this didn't fair so well to me..bottled ketchup has never been my fav..too commercial i guess..but chan seems to like it..especially when the pizza is coated with the runny yolks burst out in the middle..

good salad, good pizza of course u need a good drink..super nutella milkshake..i stop taking nutella after all the nutella at the shelves are produced in Thailand which is much much sweeter..i wonder why..but for this, it wasn't that sweet after it had been blend with the milk..etc.etc..for the first few sips, its so creamy and sinful, but towards the end, its pretty difficult to finish it as it becomes too heavy especially when the stomach was filled with other food as well..

overall these was a good place for some hearty deli food (at least for the food we eaten )..service was pretty efficient that night, maybe it was a weekday..shall come back and try more of their item when i had my crime partner back in town..

my perfect crime partner when it comes to indulging in good food..miss ya!!

Leonardo's, Jalan Bangkung Bangsar

this post has been drag way too long
getting a bit lazy lately, but better late than never right...i shall post something more recent..haha
Elcerdo has been a good choice for porky meal, but i found a new gem, okay maybe they have been existing very long, lame me...Leonardo's located at Jalan Bangkung
its time to celebrate again

we love their bread..warm..dipped in balsamic vinegar and olive oil..yummy...

Grilled portabello mushroom..very simple dish but well executed. very flavorful and well seasoned with the cheese melted on top make a good start for the evening.

i love mushroom soup, but sometimes its pretty disappointing to get mushroom soup that tasted just like canned soup..but Leonardo's mushroom soup was good n yummy..not too thick, just nice for cream soup, very flavorful and subtle hint of truffle oil completed it as well..

Spanish Black Pig Shoulder Loin Steak..usually we dont have doneness issue when it comes to pork. but for this, they actually cook it medium well where u can still see the pink inside. its slightly tougher then the usual pork but yummy..once again accompanied with truffle mashed potatoes!!!

my favorite of the night, Ranjit pasta..don't ask me why Ranjit..some bloggers commented this is plain, nothing to shout about, normal bacon pasta..but its comfort food for me especially its raining night..clean, simple, TASTY!!!that makes me smile!!!

alright, this is not in the menu..we ordered a chocolate volcano and waited for 20 minutes. the chef came and apologize saying that the staff break the volcano..don't ask me how either..and since we chose not to wait for the second serving, they gave us a complimentary fruit platter which was equally good for us. As least, a healthy ending!!!
overall, it was a great dining experience..and i did came back for the second visit with my girls..more to come!!

The Daily Grind

i don't really have a sweet tooth nowadays
but occasionally I still have craving
and this is the day i had the cravings
especially so many reviews had been done on it
you just got to taste it to tell it

a cup of piping hot cappuccino with slices of biscotti which i dropped on the floor
of course the kind young lady replace it with a few piece more for me
the cappuccino was nicely foamed
correct proportion of milk, coffee and foam make a perfect cup
this may not be perfect but good enough for a drizzling day

here comes the crave
the hummingbird cake
slices of pineapple on the frosting
nutty fruity cake, although it was on the sweet side
but accompany by the cappuccino, they are perfect pairing

this was my favorite of the day
the red velvet..
first glance, its going to be extreme sweet with those frosting
but i was of course wrong
its dense, not over sweet and huge slice of cake
this was one hell of a good cake i have for a long long time

i heart this so much
the next time, its for BURGER!!!!

love
